Digging in the Dirt – Updates, Questions and a Stray Poem

I don’t have a beautiful mind. Math has never been a strong suit of mine, and so, in November, rather than doing NaNoWriMo (apologies to all who were really looking forward to hearing me go on and on about it) I will be taking grade 12 Maths.

Yes, you read that correctly.

I’m looking to go back to college in January and in order to do so I have to upgrade my skills, such as they are (practically non-existent, I swear).

I also have to delay the project I had mentioned before, if only because I know there’s no way in hell I’ll be able to pull it all together for Christmas. However, those who mentioned they were interested, if you are still up for trying it, I’ll see what I can come up with, and give you all a bit more time, and it can be a project for the new year.

Still to come — the third book in the Jessica series.

If you haven’t read JESSICA and SINGULARITY yet, ’tis the season.

In the meantime, I’ll be digging in the dirt to unearth some writing you may or may not have encountered before — stuff from my now defunct other blog The Weltschmerz Collection — and I also have an offer for you/question of interest.

Last November, I wrote the first book of a trilogy titled The People of the Manatii (read more about it HERE) and I wondered if you’d like to read it — spread out over the months of November/December, serialized here on the Dilettante Factory as well as over on whoisjessica.com

Let me know if you’re interested. In the meantime, here’s a poem for you entitled “What if God Had a Stroke”

what if god had a stroke

of genius the day he thought up

the goldfish

here is a creature that enjoys a surprise every day

what if god had a stroke

of luck at the Powerball

and has left us to our own devices

while he enjoys Cuba Libres somewhere tropical

and works on his tan

what if god had a stroke

too many on the 18th hole

but his opponents, not wanting

to upset god who is clearly

a poor loser

fudged their scorecards and so

the world kept spinning for another millennium or two

what if god had a stroke

and he can’t remember any of us

and his left side isn’t working too well

and he has forgotten important things

like rice

or redemption

or the plays of Samuel Beckett

  1. Well, I’m gonna give it to you straight. I prefer reading my fiction/stories on my kindle. Yes, even the beloved paperback does not compare to the paper-white.

However, that story sounds really interesting so if you put it on your blog I will try my best to read it on the blog. 🙂

  2. I just went and fixed myself a stiff drink after reading about your foray into math. You’ll kick its ass.

My schedule isn’t so scattered now, so I’ll be happy to read a serial here.
