Friendship Friday

Oh, god, Helena, really? Are you going to post pictures of cute kittens and unicorns and rainbows, too?

What, a dilettante can’t have friends?

I’m going to be brief about this, because I don’t want you to spend more time than is necessary reading this.

I’ve had a rough week, and I’ve come to appreciate some people in my life who reach out to someone they only know via the Internet — and I don’t make myself easily known — people that bestow upon me the unlikely title of FRIEND.

Hug a friend today. Thank someone for their friendship today, because friendship requires effort. I know that I can be totally self-absorbed and incredibly needy and high-maintenance. So when someone takes the time to put aside their own issues (because we all have them) and listen to you and take care of your needs above their own, sometimes staying up to the wee hours of the morning and sacrificing sleep for you — it is no small thing.

To all who call me friend — some of you I might not even be aware of the regard you hold for me — I say thank you.

And now, cue the totally inappropriate and anti-sappy song about friends, ’cause there’s no way I was posting some “Wind Beneath My Wings” touchy-feely bullshit.

I likes to eat my friends, I make no bones about it…

  1. I like to think we are friends, but I’m so socially awkward that I’m unsure. Anyhow, I’m glad you’re feeling better. Reaching out to others is never as easy as it sounds.

  2. You bribed yourself out of a place in the sun, but you had some change to spare. So you said you wanna spend it on me, and shook the blues out of your hair.

I am beyond grateful that you let me further than arm’s length 🙂
